August 2012 Social: Stafford Beer Festival

August already! An early trip this month, was out to the Stafford Beer Festival.

A group departed by coach from The Burton Bridge Inn, to attend the festival held in Blessed William Howard School, just on the outskirts of town. The festival had over 70 beers, 16 ciders and perries as well as country wines for those so inclined. Interestingly, ales were arranged with LocAle on one side and National beers on the other (a layout I’ve not seen before but rather like!).

It was also great to see B&SD represented at the festival with showings from Quartz (Blonde: 3.8%), Blythe (Staffie: 4.4%, Palmer’s Poison: 4.7% and Johnson’s: 5.2%), Burton Bridge (Thomas Sykes: at a tastebud-tingling 10%!!!) and Burton Old Cottage (Cloughy’s Clout: 4.7%).

As is often the case, opinions vary on the beer of the festival, but for me, the Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild was a cracking drop!

Congratulations to Stafford for a great festival, looking forward to next year.
